Monday Listicles - Joy. No, Not the Dish Soap.

After Friday's list of things that frustrate me, it's probably a good thing that the Monday Listicle for today is something positive.  We are to come up with 10 Tiny (or Secret) Things That Bring You Joy.

I talk too much, so I don't have any secrets about myself.  (About others, plenty.  But that info is in the vault.  (Name that show!))  Guess we're going with just plain old tiny things that bring me joy.

Things like...

1.  Seeing the first robin of the year.  Robins are so much better at predicting the start of spring than that silly groundhog.  Today, the first robin showed up in our yard.  Praise Jesus, I will be warm again some day soon!

2.  Speaking of the groundhog, it is bringing me so much joy that Turken cannot remember the word "groundhog".  He keeps calling it Mole Day.  When he sees the picture of the groundhog he colored in school, he calls it a mole.  You may be saying, "Groundhog Day was weeks ago.  Why does he keep talking about it?"  Because I keep asking him about it.  And I will keep asking him about it until he figures it out.  Mole Day just cracks me up.

3.  Clever, funny commercials.  Lately, it is this one in particular:

4.  Learning something new.  Like how to put a video in a post.  BAM!

5.  Finding that my husband has made the bed while I was getting breakfast for the kids.  Really, anyone making any bed without being asked brings me immeasurable joy.

6.  Going on a walk around our yard without finding any dead animals or bones left over from a dead animal.  Come spring, I will have quite the dilemma on my hands.  Go outside to enjoy the beautiful weather, or stay inside and avoid all the carnage?  Decisions, decisions.

7.  A nice big bowl of Chocolate Moose Tracks ice cream.  So. Much. Joy.

8.  The wonderful aroma of a flower bed full of hyacinth.

It's why I take the kids to the zoo.  The folks at the White River Gardens (next door to the zoo) always plant lots of hyacinth just for me.

9.  When someone says, "Do you have ____?" and within seconds I actually do have ______.  I love being organized, or at least tricking people into thinking I am organized.

10.    Unexpectedly receiving a hug or a peck on the cheek from one of my kids.  Makes my heart so very joyful.

You know I had to get one sappy one in there.  I'd look like a terrible mom if I didn't even mention my kids in a list of things that bring me joy.

No school today, so off we go to get kids' eyes checked and hairs cut.  I know how to bring my kids joy, for sure.

Have a lovely day!

  1. Ha, I know what you mean about not having any secrets. I tried to write a list of ten lesser-known things about me & utterly failed... Here's to openness & transparency...? ;)

    1. I was recently introduced to a friend's husband. All she said was, "This is Christine. She likes to talk." I hear ya.

  2. I love a made bed and if I don't make it cause someone is still in it, I will make it even if I'm pulling the covers down.to get right in. There's something about getting into a made bed!

    1. I do the same thing! I can't stand getting into an unmade bed.

  3. I love when someone asks me if I have something, and I can miraculously pull it out of my handbag. The more unusual the better! I think the best one I ever had was when someone asked if I had anything to fix a hem, and I whipped a roll of double sided tape out!

    1. That is impressive! I don't know many people who even have double sided tape in their homes!

    1. Nothing like a surprise kiss on the cheek. Especially when it comes from my 14 year old who practically has to bend over to reach my cheek.

  5. I like #9--reminds me of the great joy I feel when someone calls me at work to ask a question or get information, and I know who to go to or how to get hold of information.

    1. Once or twice a year at the most do I indulge in the treat. Love it so, but it is so not good for me.

  7. We love Moose Tracks! Although I prefer the vanilla to the chocolate. Loved the Mole Day reference too! But #4 was awesome! It is fantastic when you learn how to do something new on the blog! Rock on! Erin

  8. I saw robins a few weeks ago. They probably stay here but there was a bunch of them in the yard pecking at the ground. I wonder where they were this weekend because it was COLD in NC. #4, I am SO giddy when I figure out something (especially tech). And Awww to #10! Of course you had to include it!

    1. It really is so sweet to have a 4 year old say, "I just want to hug you all day." Or to have a big kid come up and give me a hug with no warning.

  10. Visiting from Listicles. My daughter is a chemistry teacher and she had her students celebrate "Mole Day". Apparently it has something to do with Chemistry, I had to ask my Better Half, haha.

  13. I LOVE hyacinths. My favorite flower smell. You already saw a robin?? I'm totally jealous. It was really warm yesterday, but back to cold today. We had a robin nest outside my son's bedroom window last spring. It was so fun to watch.

    1. Hyacinths are the best.

I haven't seen a robin again since the wind picked up to breakneck speeds for days on end. Bums me out, actually.

There were 5 or 6 robins in our yard yesterday. I saw them as I ran to our car, through the frigid wind and cold. But the warm weather is coming. The birds told me so.

  16. Irishman and I nearly fell off the couch with the VW commercial. Too funny and SOOOO a picture of reality. :D I didn't even think to put birds on my list. I really do love my feeders and watching the bright red cardinals come in and feed in the middle of the grey drab winter.

  17. Aren't you a fun one on a no school day ;) VW hasn't had a bad commercial yet! My favorite was the Darth Vador one!
