The First Ten Things of Thankful of the Year! TToT 133

Happy New Year!!!

And Happy My Favorite Week of the Year!

Of all weeks, this is the best.

1. There are no pressing deadlines.

2. Bryan's workload slows way down, so he gets to come home a couple hours early each day.

3 and 4. We have fun traditions with our friends. New Years Eve is spent with book club couples, when we chat, laugh, play games, and laugh some more. New Years Day is spent with one of our favorite families. (They are Cuckoo's Godparents.) We chat, laugh, share a meal, laugh, play games, and laugh. It warms my heart that even the college kids still come.

5. The kids sleep in, which means I get to relax in bed well after Bryan leaves for work. I read, I doze. I read. I doze. For up to 2 hours.

6. There are no sports practices. There are games, but those are fun.

7. It is a great time in the Catholic Church's liturgical year, so the celebrating continues on through the week.

8. There is time to play games, all the new ones and some of the old favorites.

9. While I am not a fan of appointments, this is a good time to have them, as I don't have to take anyone out of school and we don't have to cram them into an already busy schedule. Six dentist appointments done.

10. And to top it off, today there is sunshine. Beautiful blue skies as far as the eye can see. We haven't seen that since before Christmas.

How have you been spending your week? Tell me all about the good stuff.

Have a lovely day!

  1. Well this does sound lovely and I can see why it's the best week of the year. Enjoy.

I love your TT posts. They always make me smile. We all have so much to be thankful for if we just take the time to be thankful.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    1. Thank you. I am! :)

Exactly. We have to actually take the time to look for the good things in our lives. An instant mood lifter.

  2. I'm with you on No.5, it's great to be able to relax in bed for an extra couple of hours when there's nothing to get up for.

Glad you've had a beautiful sunny day, we still have the incessant rain here.

Unfortunately my week and the New Year have been tinged with much sadness - hop over to my blog to see why :(

    1. It's awesome, isn't it?

Sorry to hear about the rain. I had hoped it had cleared up for you.

You have a post? I haven't seen a post of yours in my feed for a long time. I figured it was because you couldn't camp. I'm on my way over to read it.

    2. Not being able to camp is the main reason why I've not posted anything for a while. The weather has been diabolical here since the end of October, with rain almost every day and recent floods in parts of the UK, so to go anywhere at the moment would be madness.

I had actually intended to be away camping for Christmas and New Year but even if the weather had been okay I wouldn't have gone for obvious reasons. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can pack the van up and get out there again.

  3. the open-endedness (of your week) sound very appealing!
I may have to try the stay in bed and read thing, the last time I did that (not counting being sick) would have been in, like, I don't know, the 1980's?
The weather has been decent here (on the East Coast) as well, seasonably cold but, what little snow we got last week is gone. (2 more months and we'll be in the clear, frozen water-wise)

    1. It is mahvelous.
Good grief, Clark! Take a break every once in a while! (And that explains the consistently early, early reminders for photos.) :)
This winter has definitely been manageable so far.

  4. New game idea for you (if you don't already know about it): Hanabi. My sister introduced us to it. It's a cooperative card game, where the goal is to organize the fireworks display before it blows up. The catch is that you can't see the cards in your hand, so your plays depend upon the hints the other players have been able to give you.

Enjoy your week, and I hope that 2016 is full of happiness!

    1. With the number of games we have or have had, I can't believe the number that I've never heard of, but you found one! I'll keep it in mind. Thank you!

  5. Happy New Year , Christine. I love reading in bed. I tend to leave it to the end of the day as my buddy Doug wants up when he wants up and there is no delay in a 112 year old bladder first thing in the morning!

    1. Thank you!
No, it would not be a good idea to delay the Dougster's morning pee. :)
Regardless of time of day, reading in bed is luxurious.

  6. OH, my gosh! You gave me a flashback! I had forgotten how I would jockey for position to lock down those Christmas break appointment times for the kids. Crazy, hectic--and I just had three!

    1. Hahaha! I didn't really have to fight for them, it just ended up that way. The kids will be so happy to know that the next appointments will be the week after school gets out. :)

    1. yeah. I know. Mine is tomorrow. I never liked going to the dentist, but now with so many, I really, really don't like it.

  8. Sunshine and blue skies? I have total weather envy. It's been raining solidly for three days, not that I should complain when so many in the north of the country are flooded and I'm cosy indoors, far from any floodplains, BUT STILL!

I'm glad you're having such an enjoyable week. I think I need to take far more stock of things like 'read and doze' as high points - ones I get to enjoy - and stop worrying about all that I don't have (or have yet to achieve). Thank you for the reminder, and I hope you get to enjoy every last moment of the week :)

    1. I heard about the flooding in north. Tigermouse (whoe frequently comments here) is from up there. I read that you saw a peek of sun. I'm glad it's popped out for you, too.

Glad I could remind you. It's important to stop worrying about stuff like that. Worrying gets us nowhere at all.

  9. Ah, sunshine. It's true (as Clark says) a new year that starts on a Friday surely does give us some extra time for relaxing, playing games and indulging in things without that frenetic pace called life. Happy New Year to you and yours.

    1. A Friday is a good day for starting a new year. I agree.
Thank you! Happy new year to you, as well.

  10. you are right it is a good week I took off two days and it felt great...next I'd like to take the full week and hopefully I plan that...this year I was not able ; first I didn't have the extra time and a co-worker was out on medical leave...so I need to be there the two days off was because those were my last vacation days for the and the co-worker came back two weeks earlier because of boredom....Happy New Year!

    1. Two days off is a great treat. I'm glad you were able to do that much. Enough to change things up and take a break. Here's to a longer break next year!
      Happy New Year!

  11. I love mornings where I don't have to get up and can doze off and on. Both of my kids have turned into sloths in the mornings, so I don't have to worry about one of them coming in and waking me up. Tomorrow is my last chance to do the sleeping in thing, and I am going to enjoy every minute of it!
We had sunshine today, too. I don't want to see any more rain for a very long time.

    1. Your teens are only sloths in the morning?? Mine have become all-day sloth creatures.

I hope you are enjoying this last sleep!

No, I imagine you don't. We had several days of rain, too. Enough to fill a room in our basement and turn the fields into ponds. Nothing like what you all had, though.

  12. So much thankfulness it makes me smile! I recently started back to church and it is a great time to be there. (I'm in the RCIA class so I can be confirmed.. I was only ever baptized due to military moves) We too just got our first dose of sunshine and blue skies in forever. The temps are biting but the sun is fabulous. Those 2 hours of reading and dozing must be heavenly.. Those 6 dental appts. Not so much.. Happy New Year Christine and thanks for stopping by!

  13. You got six dentist appointments done over the Christmas holidays? I am impressed!

    ReplyDelete
  14. WOW you certainly had a balance of family time, fun and relaxation sprinkled in with the dentist. HAH! Sounds like a wonderful week. Wishing you a wonderful New Year.

  15. We went quite a few days without sun too so when it came out it was blinding. Like I forgot it could be that light in the house. We are back to basketball practice tonight. There has been no practices since December 15th and that has been nice. I remember one year about three years ago between that short time Christopher outgrew his practically new basketball shoes. I saved them as a souvenir. Shrugging - don’t know why.

  16. Lots of family time. How nice.
