BOOM! A TToT Post at the Beginning of the Weekend. Week 150!

Do not adjust your computer.

I know you are a bit confused right about now.

"Wait a minute! I don't remember sleeping in and relaxing and getting yard work done and all those other things I do on the weekend! But it must be Sunday night because Christine's thankful post is up."

Fear not.

You didn't sleep through the weekend.

I simply got my act together and got this sucker written on Friday.

No one is more surprised than me.

On to the thankfuls!!

1. I may not be able to get an entire post written in a week, but I can write 6 words! Just ask Eli from Coach Daddy. Each month he assigns a prompt and folks respond using only 6 words. This month, in celebration (or maybe in defiance?) of Money Smart week, he asked us about a time we weren't exactly smart with our money, and I actually got my answer in on time! (You'll have to go to his post to see what my answer was.)

2. I managed to get most of the mowing done tonight before the rain moves in.

3. I also managed to get some flowers planted around the house.

4. The middle school performed the musical this week, and it was as awesome as always. Each year I'm astounded yet again by the talent mere 12, 13, and 14 year olds possess. But also, I'm thrilled that musical practices are over. The last two weeks before show time are killer.

5. My mom was able to come up for several days this week. She came up for the musical, but ended up seeing a baseball game, too. She and I had a couple of lovely days by ourselves while the kids were at school.

6. Turken's First Holy Communion is next week, and we have a suit! He is apparently much smaller than any of the older boys were in second grade, so I had to buy one. BUT THEN a friend of mine said she had a size 8 suit that her son wore for his First Communion and said we could have it. He tried it on, and it fits! The one I bought will be going back to the store.

7. The gigantic, 150-year old, dead trees at the end of our driveway (that were threatening to fall and crush an innocent passerby) are gone, and it didn't cost me thousands of dollars. While it was costly, from what I hear about tree removal, it was a great price. It took them 8 hours, but the job is done and done well. The only sign that trees were ever there are the two patches of empty earth.

8. My family goes with the flow when dinner turns out to be way less than it was supposed to be. Like tonight. I was making 2 pot pies, but after getting the filling into the crusts, I realized I didn't actually buy two boxes. I didn't have any crust to put on the tops of them. I didn't have time to make crusts, so I went out on a limb and popped open some (expired) Pillsbury biscuits in the back of the fridge. I flattened them out and plopped them on top.
If the biscuits wouldn't have burned, it might have worked.
The kids who "don't like it" (I think it must be a superpower that my kids know without ever tasting something that they don't like it. (That was sarcasm.)) didn't complain any more than usual, and the kids who do like pot pie ate it without much ado.

9. Buttercup is racking up the driving hours. I'm getting greedy. I'm used to Phoenix driving, and while it is super handy, I could really use another driver in this house. She should be able to get hers by the end of June.

10. I'm thankful for Bryan. For more reasons than I can count.

How is your week going? I'd love for you to leave a comment or join in the link up!

Have a lovely day!

  1. You definitely surprised me with the post being done on Friday, I wasn't expecting to see it yet :)

It's great that your mom came for a few days and you were able to spend some time together while the kids were at school. And a money-saving bonus that you were given a suit for Turken so you can return the one you bought.

I think kids who 'don't like' things before they even taste them must be the same the world over. I had a friend who 'didn't like' eggs, but when my mom did eggy bread for me and gave her some to try she loved it. It's probably the thought of things they don't like, rather than the things themselves. I'm glad your pot pie got eaten anyway, even if it didn't turn out quite right.

Sounds like Buttercup is doing well with the driving hours - you'll have an extra chauffeur before you know it :)

As for my week? From warm spring weather last week to cold wet wintry weather this week - to quote one of your own previous posts it's now unspring. So much so that I've cancelled my camping weekend and I'm staying home - so I'm not a happy bunny :(

    1. I'm sorry the weather was so bad you had to cancel. It's continued to be mostly unspring here, too. I am wanting to get out into the garden desperately!! I hope things have improved for you this week.

  2. sounds like a great week and many accomplishments getting stuff done around the house is the best. 6 words is fun and interesting - your pants was considered a splurge? I'm sure they were fine. Getting a suit for your son is absolutely the best - for something that is being worn for one day, why not!
Pot pies and quick executive decision, kids with super powers, a new driver in the house! Have a great weekend and week ahead. :)

    1. Pants? No, perhaps you read the one below mine. We waaaaaay overpaid in an auction for front row seats at 8th grade graduation. :)

  3. Looks like a very busy, but even more productive week and you got your post up on Friday. Wow, that rocks.

I love these posts and that's why I do Thankful Thursday every week. It's good to look at all the happy things rather than focus on the few negative things. Some folks can't get past the negative.

    Have a fabulous weekend. ☺

    1. I have not been reading many blogs these days, but I have been keeping up with your thankful Thursdays! Focusing on the positive changes everything. I've found that out to be the case in my own head, but also in the way I live with kids. Focus on the good things they do way more than the not so good.

  4. yeah.... we ( sorry, meant to say they, children ) do in fact have the facility to estitaste a dish, it evolved in response to the early exposure to concepts of food and taste that mothers have try to instill in children since... well, since I was a child, "sure there are (lima beans/cauliflower/peppers/etc) in it, but you can't taste them!"
    lol

    1. Hahaha! I may or may not have said something similar at some point. ;) But usually I just point out all the things they DO like in a meal.

  5. Well, my friend, it sounds like you are a pro in the cooking department: the biscuits fix was genius. And, well, a little brown-burny-stuff doesn't hurt: it's just part of the recipe! LOL.
I know allll about being an extra driver. So, now you know I grew up in a nursing home. I had to learn to drive right when I turned 16 (I was in NO hurry, either, because I knew what was coming) and had to start taking little old ladies to hair appointments. Hahaha. But extra drivers are good! :) And very helpful.
Flowers, First Communions, Talent shows...you're one busy person, but it sounds like you're having fun. :) Have a great week!

    1. I am far from being a pro, but in the last 21 years, I've learned a few things. :) Watching Chopped has helped.

Hahaha! My oldest put off getting his license, too, because he was afraid he was going to become the driver for all of his siblings. Not true, but his driving ability has been quite handy. You did lead an out-of-the box child/teenhood!

We are having fun. Busy fun. :)

  6. woohoo! Lookit you all early and everything! Driving in our house was a very different affair. My four brothers who came before me had totalled so many of my father's cars that he put a ban on driving by the time it got down to my turn. I was 22 when I got my liscence. I wasnt living at home all that time but couldnt afford a car when I moved out in my teens so I used public transportation everywhere until I could afford one...For some reason I had it in my head that it needed to be spankin new...maybe that's why it took so long or maybe it wasn't a priority... who knows?

    1. Apparently it was a one-time thing. :)
      Hahaha!! Stupid brothers.

      Who knows indeed.

  7. All good times, Christine. Glad you and your mom got to spend some girl time together and that she could enjoy the pursuits of her grandchildren. Here's to pot pie with biscuits on top, free suits that fit, and a new driver in the family.

    1. yes, they are. :)

I'm not going to waste a single chance I have to spend with my mom. I know too many people who don't have the chance anymore, and we don't know when I won't anymore, either.

  8. You had me at planting flowers, and really, anything to do with being outside, altho for me, the shining moment of this post is Turken's First Holy Communion. This makes me smile and my heart sing. :) Yay for getting your post up and in, on time! Great list and that pot pie sounds fine by me!

    1. The First Holy Communion was Saturday, and it was wonderful. I was just as emotional on Sunday when he had his Second Communion. :)

It has been wet and cold for most of the last week, and there's no end in sight. Oh how I miss my flowers and garden plants!!!

  9. Our front yard has two huge old oak trees. They are nearing the end of their lives. Every year we we baby them along with iron shots and prayers. We have someone come and cut off anything that has died in the past year. Basically, we are in denial! I can't imagine the yard with just those two tell tale pieces of bare earth as you say.

    1. It is so sad when a beautiful, old tree has to be cut down. We have many, many 100+ year old trees on our property, and I will be devastated when some of them have to come down. The two at the end of the drive had been dead for a while. There wasn't anything pretty about them anymore, so I was glad to see them go. I was more afraid of them falling on someone driving by.

  10. Oh the suit! Let me tell you we had such a hard time finding our kid a suit for his. he is a tall boy but has such a tiny waist. I bet he will look handsome! We have tree in our backyard that has to go. It will cost us a few thousand so we are waiting. It's not a threat but it's dying. Sigh. It was a very nice tree. I'm glad that it didn't cost you a lot. So sad when you have to get rid of trees.

    1. Now that I have teens and little kids, when I saw all of those 8 year olds in their suits, all I could do was picture them 10 years from now as high school seniors.
It's astounding how much it costs to have a tree cut down. I'm guessing it has to do with the danger factor and the insurance costs. Of course, there were between 4-6 guys at my house for 8 hours. That's gonna cost money, too. It is hard to see a big, beautiful tree have to come down.

  11. So many good things in your busy week, especially precious time spent with your Mom! I love the feeling of getting projects finally completed, like removal of the old dead trees. Each time you pass through you will smile now and think how good it looks! Blessings to Turken on his First Communion next week!

    1. Getting things done makes me absolutely giddy. And with the trees gone, I now see how badly our view turning onto the road was obstructed.

  12. Toss in some snapdragons or some such coolness for me around the yard, would you? We lost a player on our soccer team because of his first communion - it's tough to argue with the Big Boss on that one! My oldest has no interest in getting her license - why, when mom and dad can tote her around, she says?

I'm grateful to have you in the six words post - and thanks for sharing it!

      Ha! yes, it is.
There are soooo many teens who put off their license. When you're driving, you can't sleep or text!

      Thank you for inviting me!

  13. A tree a few streets behind our house fell and landed on a Honda Civic that happened to be driving by at the time. Luckily, no one was hurt. (I'm not counting the tree nor the Civic.) That's probably a relief to not have to worry about something like that happening with your trees!

    1. YIKES! That is exactly what I was afraid of happening at our house. I'm glad no one was hurt.

  14. I'm always surprised when I get mine in on a Friday - REALLY surprised. Yay for you! I love Eli's six words roundup (although I definitely think I missed that money one...)
Great that the trees were not as costly as they could've been and that the family was decent about dinner. I'm always happy when mine are good with whatever happens. Like leftover night - because with karate and swimming that's like 4 times a week anymore!
Zilla's First Holy Communion is this coming weekend and I really can't believe it. Hope Turken (and all of you) have a beautiful day!

My kids are usually happy with leftover night, seeing as how we just call it a eat whatever the heck you want night. :)

  15. I’ll go check out Eli’s post. I get stressed out trying to write for a six-word prompt. My mom and I well get some days to hang out later this month. My husband will be gone for a week. My daddy is already whining about it.
