Monkey Business

We're going to get sippy cups!

I think those might be napkins stuck inside regular cups.

There will be 2 cakes!

Um, that's just a photo.  It is not reality.

I just want Claire to come.  No one else.

Well, that would be called a date, not a party, and you're too young for that.  We have to invite other people.

I don't want Turken.  He'll just do what I do.

Too bad.  Your brother will be coming.

But it's MY party.

Not if you're going to be unkind it won't.

Have you talked to the person about when the party will be yet?

No.  It's not open yet.

Do you know where it is?

Yes, basically.

How do you know?

There's a map on the back of the brochure.

There's two maps.

We're going to the top one.

Do they both have the same things?

Yes.

Even the throne?

Yes.

And I'll get two cakes?

No.  Just one.

How do you know?

Because I'll be bringing it.  They only give us the ice cream.

How long will we be there?

Two hours.

Two whole hours???

Yes.

When are we going?

I don't know.  I haven't called them to schedule it yet.

Call them.

I can't until we make sure your friends can go.

I only want Claire.

We've been through this.

It says "Be a Monkey".

Yes, it does.

Know how I know?

No, I don't.

Phoenix told me.

That was nice of him.

I'm going to bring my monkey to the party.

Absolutely, yes, you are.

.........................................................................................................................

One little dollar raffle ticket with Cuckoo's name on it was placed in the basket in front of the local bounce house birthday party package.

That one little dollar raffle ticket was chosen as the winner.

That one little winning raffle ticket is the cause of my headache.

The only time Cuckoo has stopped talking about this party is when he is asleep.

There is just one big problem.

Cuckoo's birthday isn't until the end of August.

I cannot talk about and be excited for a bounce house party for 7 months straight.

For the first time in the Coop's history, we will celebrate a half birthday.

Yes, February sounds like a great month for a party.

And that deranged-sounding monkey that screeches instead of ooh-ooh-ah-ahs?  Cuckoo will most certainly be bringing it to the party.   It will be the perfect place to "accidentally" lose it.

Have a lovely day!

  1. WTH happened to that monkey!!! I think my ears are bleeding and they have had to withstand many, MANY, noises. :)

Cuckoo is soooo stinking cute!! I love the confused look on his face when you said "no, not the big kids" and then quickly moved on to "make the monkey make its sound again."

A half birthday is definitely in order and who cares if only Claire is available. ;)

    1. Is that not the most awful sound to come from a toy you have ever heard??? It seems to be the going monkey sound for toys, as my MIL has a monkey magnet that makes the exact same sound when you push it. Horrible!

Yes, I keep my kids hopping, moving from one thing to the next in the blink of an eye. (Huh...perhaps this explains their ability to do it and drive me bonkers...Nah.)

Yes to the half birthday. No to only Claire. Turken gets to go, too. :)

  2. The excitement is at a fever-pitch, I can tell. :-) Happy half-birthday to Cuckoo!

  3. The monkey sounds like it might be attempting to be a rooster...that even made the Fab Hub look up quizzically from whatever he's doing at his computer right now.

Waiting until August would be cruel and unusual for all concerned. Go for the February party - and as for the Claire date thing... perhaps better that it's Cuckoo at this age with only Claire showing up than say ten or twelve years down the road. Bright side. :D

    1. Yes! That's what it is, except our rooster slippers don't sound quite as alarmed as the monkey. Sorry for the interruption, Fab Hub.

It most certainly would. Now that you say that, it reminds me of a past birthday. For birthdays, our kids have the choice of a big party at our house or one person to go someplace fun. When Buttercup was in 3rd grade, she asked if a boy could go with her to a fun place. We did let her, the boy was thrilled, and they had a great time. They are still friends, actually. So, I guess our history with "dates" isn't unheard of. However, Turken will be going as a chaperon. :)

  4. August!!! hahaha! Happy half birthday, Cuckoo! I'm less fortunate that you are actually. Because I actually have a birthday boy in February and I promised him a THEME party. complete with costumes. No kidding. And next month is... February. The regret is deep, my friend.

    1. What in the world were you thinking???? And in February in NE Ohio? That means it's inside your house!!! Were you in the middle of Peach's illness when you agreed to this madness?? Good luck with that.

    1. Ha! In the parking lot is a great plan on things like this. I never would have chosen to tell him about the party. He was there when it was announced.

No, I won't. He would be insufferable if given these thoughts. :)

  10. Does the half birthday replace the whole birthday party celebration?

    1. I probably should have explained that our kids don't routinely get birthday celebrations. Normally, they can either have some kids to the house for a little party, or they can take one friend out to do something. But even that isn't a guaranteed rule. Neither Turken nor Cuckoo have had a party with friends yet. With family, yes. My extended family gets together for big parties to celebrate birthdays several times a year. So, he will get a family party, shared with 2 brothers and a cousin, over Labor Day weekend.

  12. HA!!! SO TYPICAL!! Love the dialogue! Half birthday party? Heck, I would just say this THIS is your birthday celebration- and on his birthday- several months later, bring the pictures out and eat some box made cake and relive it all in memory mode! DONE. ;)

    1. Glad you liked it. The reason he is extra excited is because our family doesn't do birthday parties like this. The kid has never had a birthday party with friends before, and his siblings have never had one anywhere but at home. All together, that makes this party a Very Big Deal. When his birthday rolls around, it will be the usual family party over Labor Day, which is shared with 2 brothers and a cousin.

  13. I love the monkey, although admittedly I have got the sound low on my pc.

A half-birthday party sounds great, I hope Cuckoo has a brilliant time. Be thankful though that he doesn't know about the suggestion in Alice In Wonderland that everyone should celebrate their un-birthdays, of which there are 364 per year - that's an awful lot of cake and presents! :)

    1. Oh, if it were a simple, quiet monkey, I'd say it's adorable. But with the sound, it is horrendous and must be sent from the house.

Can you even imagine?? Out of the entire story, you know he would latch onto the unbirthday thing. No way will he be watching that or being read the book anytime soon.
