Monday Listicles - Photos of Life with Six Kids

Joining up with the Listicle gang today with the fun topic of 10 Photos of Life with Kids.

I had only a few minutes to go through the albums and narrow down to 10 that made me smile and told a bit of a story.  I'd love to have you over to pour through all 25 albums, but since I can't, here are some old photos to give you an idea of what life with six kids is really like.

1.  Appointments.  Lots and lots of appointments.  Between baby check-ups, sports physicals, sick visits, broken bones, 6 month dental visits, and emergency I-knocked-out-a-tooth visits, we have had more than our fair share of appointments.

   2.  Crying.  Especially during those first few years, with all those little ones running around, there always seemed to be someone crying.

 3.  Odd medical phenomena.  Weird rashes, odd swelling, mysterious bruises, baffling blood.  They are all a part of raising half a dozen children.

Turken woke up one morning with one of his ears a whole lot bigger than the other.
4.  Hysterical mishaps.  Kids get themselves into the craziest predicaments, and I just can't help but to laugh and take a photo before helping them.

Buttercup went out to collect eggs, but forgot the basket.  She decided to simply put them in her pocket.  Before she made it to the house, she forgot about the eggs, bent over to get something, and broke one.  She sobbed for 5 minutes before I could stop laughing and help her that day.
5.  Firsts.  First steps.  First words.  First time sleeping through the night.  Baby books are filled with all of the "firsts".  Multiplied by six kids.   I'm always just as excited with Cuckoo's firsts as I was with Phoenix's.
Cuckoo's first haircut.  He was the only one with hilarious curly hair.  I waited way too long to cut it the first time.
6.  Traditions.  They help build a family, and with six kids, we need all the building and bonding we can get.

We always go to the state fair's farm for children and take a photo next to the same barn.  Watching them all grow taller in comparison to the stationary sunflowers really helps us see how much they've changed.
7.  Special occasions.  Birthdays, sacraments, important days.  Times six.  There's always something big going on.

8.  Messes.  Good heavens, can six kids make a mess.  Especially when helped out by colorful food.

9.  Stuff to do.  As they get older, kids want to join things.  With six kids, that is a whole mess of stuff to do.

10.  Love and happiness.  When they aren't arguing or wreaking havoc, they are just plain lovable and making me smile till it hurts.

Have a lovely day!

  1. Oh these are fabulous. Especially the one about the egg in her pocket that broke. A tragedy for her and a stand up routine for you. Bless her heart.

    Have a terrific day. ☺

    1. She was completely distraught, but I couldn't help but laugh. She hasn't forgotten, but she has forgiven me. :)

  2. 4. Love the look of anguish on her face! I wouldn't have been able to stop laughing, either. 5. Oh, those beautiful golden curls! 6. Love! It's like my first day of school pictures on the front stop, in front of our door. Only way cooler. 8. Did he eat the WHOLE CAKE?! He looks like my dad after eating Thanksgiving dinner! 10. Super love.

    1. 4. We are so much alike! 5. They really are. His hair isn't quite as curly as it used to be, but still wild and funny. 6. I forget to take the first day of school pictures half the time, and it's still dark. Photos never turn out well. 8. Nope, just one piece. 10. :)

  3. Isn't it great that even the crying moments then bring smiles now? (I'm hoping/assuming Buttercup can laugh about it now.)

    Love the list!

    1. Time does make it all look better. Funny you should say that. When I told her I was putting that photo on the blog, she asked, "Will we ever be able to forget that it happened?" No. Never.

  4. LOVE that one big ear. Shame you couldn't nickname Turken Dumbo 'cause the syndrome wasn't symmetrical.

    1. I laughed the entire day. It was so, so funny looking. There were plenty of names, but Dumbo wasn't on the list. :)

  7. Well of course they are So.Stinkin.Cute. My favorites (not that you asked): Cuckoo's haircut, and Buttercup with the broken egg in her pocket. Awesome!

    1. Of course. :)

Isn't that hair ridiculous?! When it was dry, I knew it was long, but having it combed into his face like that? Really tells you how overdue that haircut was!

  8. I love the odd medical phenomena! LOL I have had more than my fair share of those! I've also learned a lot over the years. I practically have my nursing degree sans the actual education! And all the crying. I am hoping that it will eventually end!

    1. I'm sure you have! I put off doctor visits all the time. Surely our "nursing degree" is enough? The crying will end. For a while it may turn into something less pleasant, but it will end. And then when they are parents, we will laugh.

  9. Ah, you summed it all up well. These things are what life with kids is made of. Every summer, we take a picture of our kids in the same spot on the porch of our lake house. Looking back at those pictures, it really takes your breath away to see how they've grown up. Beautiful post!

    1. Thank you! Every family should have a spot where they take photos or somehow mark the years. It really is astounding to see how much they grow.

  10. Such a precious hub.

With what ever issues we all have...ultimately the family comes together!

  12. Awwwww such cute pictures! I can't help but love #8 I laughed so much when seeing that one. It reminded me of a Meme I saw a few months back.

Depending on when you check your email, just know, I just couldn't help myself >.< I wish I had Photoshop, though, since editing abilities with text are so much better. Paint is just too limited.

I can't lie... #3 may haunt my dreams for a while... he looks almost alien O_o Have you had any odd time lapses and/or feelings of having been... probed... You do live out in the boonies and are a great candidate for abduction!

    1. Just saw the email. Still cracking up about it. :)

I think we are much more likely to have been bitten by something than be abducted. That's what I'm going with, at least. :)

  17. I absolutely enjoyed every single picture and story. Odd medical phenomena was one of my faves. I really do love following your family adventures. 6 was always my number, but I think we're sticking with 4.
