Memory Monday Is Back!

A short little "Lenten" story about my oldest today, seeing as how the start of Lent, and discussions about our sins, is on tap this week.

The dental hygienist came out to the waiting room, a 4 year old Phoenix following, to say, "I have got to tell you what happened back there."

Words that every mother fears.

I was wincing as she began the story.

Teeth were counted. Plaque was removed. The hygienist was preparing to brush Phoenix's teeth and asked what flavor he would like.

Phoenix chose strawberry.

She opened up that teeny tiny container of toothpaste, and as she was about to scoop it out with the whirly brush, Phoenix piped up, "Wait! I asked for strawberry!"

DH: "This is strawberry."
P: "But strawberries are red. That is pink."
DH: "I know. But it's strawberry. I promise."

*She begins to scoop the paste.*

*Phoenix paused, but looked quite panicked."

When the hygienist told him to open his mouth, he yelped.

P: "Wait! I forgot! I gave strawberries up for Lent!"

It was June.

Months past Lent.

A Lent in which he most certainly did not give up strawberries.

But the kind hygienist laughed in her head, then said, "Well, I can't argue with religious reasons!"

His teeth were brushed with mint that day.

And every day after that.

Have a lovely day!

    1. I agree, and I can't stand mint in candies and things. Just in my toothpaste and gum. :)

  4. hahaha! I've always found toothpaste flavors other than mint to be bit superfluous.
It's fun to remember the little things like this :)

    1. I agree. Mint is always the way to go when it comes to toothpaste.

I have enjoyed it tremendously. :)

  6. That's a great story. Too cute.
My Mom often calls and says "So I have a great Zilla story..." (she teaches in Zilla's school so often gets the scoop firsthand) and I definitely hold my breath until she's finished and I'm sure we don't have to transfer schools!

    1. Oh, I just cringe whenever I see a teacher or other person who works with my children coming to me. When there is a story to tell, there is a certain look in the person's eyes. I always know to brace myself.

  7. He's quick on his feet, that Phoenix.
Kyle ordered mint chocolate cream pie at a restaurant when he was about 10. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but a few bites into it and it made him think of toothpaste and a few more bites and he had to run to the bathroom and, well. He found that while mint was wonderful for cleaning his teeth, it didn't translate well to pie.

    1. Yep, that's my boy. Quick with a non-truth.

Ew. I am not a mint person unless it is toothpaste or gum. I can't stand Peppermint Patties or those mints some restaurants pass out. I'm completely with Kyle.

  10. Does Phoenix know you told that story to a gajillion people? lol It's amazing how quickly little kids make a determination about a thing, change their minds and then presto chango! have the "data" to back it up! No convincing some 4 yr olds is there? Strawberries are RED. NOT pink:)

    1. He does as of 2 hours ago. :) He's ok with it. What they did as little kids is fair game for the most part.

No joke! Too bad it's not exclusive to 4 year olds...

He did have a point. :)

  11. My compliments (to the 4 year old Phoenix)… when we're that old, we totally know what the world is supposed to look like and, for whatever reasons, adults seem to think that we are: a) not paying attention and/or 2) will take their (the adults) words for everything!

    we rest our case!

(any of the other kids need any rhetorical backup on their judgement calls, let 'em know the Doctrine will be there)

    (well, kinda serious lol)

  12. I think Phoenix and E would get along just fine, she was the child who convinced me to buy princess toothpaste only to squeeze the entire tube into the sink to use it up before I would buy her regular mint toothpaste
    silly kids
at least he did not give up brushing for Lent
