On the Cusp

My children are finally getting old enough to stay home alone.

The two oldest are even old enough to babysit the little ones.

Hubby and I actually went out on a dinner date on Friday.

I wore some kickin' shoes.

Not with those jeans, though.

You'd think life was perfect here on the farm.

And yet...

I didn't have time to paint my nails, let alone get a pedicure.

After the shoes were on, I simply painted the toes that showed.   Painted right over the chipping paint left over from the last time I wore peep-toe shoes.

Months ago.

Someday...

And please don't ask about that white stick thing in the photo.  I have no idea what it is.  Perhaps someday I'll get around to cleaning, too.

And tell me, what is it about having a blog that eradicates all sense of decorum and lets me feel that it is not only OK, but necessary, to put a picture of my ugly old lady toes on the internet for everyone to see?  Riddle me that, reader.

UPATE:  I am vacuuming.  The white thing is a tiny little white tube, cleary broken off of something.  From what it broke, I have no idea.

Have a lovely day!

  1. LOL!!! I do the same thing! But... I do not have those shoes. My husband wants me to have a pair of shoes like that so I'm not showing him your post. I would fall over and crack my skull open in those. I'm willing to compromise but he always prefers the most treacherous things. Hope you had a lovely time!

    1. They are one of two pairs that I have with such skinny heels. They don't get worn very often. Compromise is good. How about wedges? Those are much easier to walk in. But don't go crazy and crack open your skull. That would be very bad.
      We did have fun, thanks.

  2. I do the exact same thing with my toes! I was sitting on the floor in the bathroom last night doing the twins' baths... and found spaghetti noodles on the floor. Uncooked spaghetti noodles. I'm not sure why... and after 3-1/2 years of twins I don't ask anymore. I think I might need to vacuum too.

    1. So glad I'm not the only one with such secrets!
Cooked spaghetti noodles I understand, but uncooked noodles? What's going on in that house of yours?? :)

  3. Love this!! I find the most random stuff on my floor too! Those shoes are hot, hot, hot and I dig your farmer style pedi! I should put up a picture of my mom style mani, it's pretty sweet. Just a touch of polish near the middle of the nail, because I painted my nails last month and haven't completely chewed them clean yet. We are so fab lol!

    1. I find some mind-boggling thing on the floor. And don't get me started on what I find in the couch cushions and bedrooms. We should start a museum of unidentified unclaimed random objects found when vacuuming.
I'm impressed that you even paint your nails. I have more of the raggedy, torn, dull plain look going on.
Regardless, yes, we are completely fab!

    1. We did. We tried a newer place in Franklin. The Indigo Duck. I had a delicious she-crab soup. Oh, and the bread. Yum. And now I'm drooling just thinking about it.

  5. Isn't it great when you can start going out as a couple again, and not have to worry about hiring a sitter or finding family that can watch the kids? Ahh and the power that the older siblings feel and reign over the younger ones. Those were the days ;)

    1. Considering that our closest relative is two hours away and we live 20 minutes from the nearest teenage babysitter, this is heavenly. Heavenly, I tell you! The older ones are so close in age, and their personalities are such that there really is no reigning, except over the little boys. And no one is fighting to be in charge of them! :) I was always in charge when we were growing up and hated every minute. Siblings are such brats.

  6. THOSE SHOES! ADore it!
We're lucky to have kids who can self-babysit now too--I pay them all--$2/hour to the oldest who is in charge. $1/hour to the youngest who must cooperate. If anyone complains, the one getting complained about doesn't get paid. Everyone has skin in the game, and they all want money, so they all get paid. Even if they fight the whole time, I never hear about it, which is FINE by me!

    1. We don't pay them in cash, but in TV. They so rarely get to watch TV that they beg us to leave so they can watch it. I have never been told about any fighting, either. Glorious, isn't it?
